Gabriel Soto (b. El Salvador, 1993) is an artist with an interest in vintage imagery, philosophy, science, and esotericism. He graduated in 2017 from The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with a BFA, where he trained in figurative and representational art.

His work has been shown in several exhibits in Maryland, DC, as well as the midwest and in virtual spaces. In 2023 he was the recipient of the Grant for Artists by the Maryland State Arts Council.

Primarily focused on the dialectic between archaic metaphysics and modern scientific ontology, Gabriel is currently based out of the Washington DC area, where he resides as a DACA recipient.

“My work explores the struggle between idealistic spirituality and physicalist scientific theories, as well as my own anxieties about the nature of the world, the fate of humanity, and our abstractions of nature. Vintage 20th century imagery and classical artworks serve as both inspiration and reference to place my work within a context where magical archaic ontologies clash and interact with material scientific method. My work resembles photographic documentation of scientific experiments, geographic studies, and diagrams of abstract structures. Surreal scenes of paranormal activity, encounters with mystical visions, and arcane symbols are displayed through this visually scientific style. With my work, I display the tension between our post-Enlightenment world and the human desire to participate with the arational and otherworldly”
